Understanding Hot Rolled Wire Rod and Steel Wire Rod

Steel wire rod​ is also produced through a rolling process, but the steel used is generally of a higher quality than that used in hot rolled wire rod production. The steel is also typically treated with different alloys or elements to enhance its properties. Steel wire rod is available in a range of diameters, from 5.5 mm to 32 mm, and is used in a variety of applications such as springs, bearings, and fasteners.

One of the advantages of steel wire rod is its high strength and durability, which makes it ideal for applications that require high precision and strength. It is also suitable for use in high-temperature environments, thanks to its excellent heat resistance. However, steel wire rod is more expensive than hot rolled wire rod due to its higher quality and the additional processing required.

Applications

The choice between hot rolled wire rod and steel wire rod depends on the specific application. Hot rolled wire rod is ideal for applications that don't require high precision or a smooth surface finish. It is commonly used in the production of low-carbon steel wire, welding wire, and tie wire.
